Certification in Germany : AFNOR Group has just acquired 51% of the German certification body GUTcert

AFNOR Group has just acquired through its German subsidiary, AFAQ AFNOR International GmbH, a 51% share in the certification body GUTcert. Thanks to this acquisition, AFNOR Group is strengthening its position in Germany (the leading export market for French companies) and is opening up to Eastern Europe’s booming markets.

Founded in 1997, GUTcert was first specialised in environment (EMAS and ISO 14001) and approval of waste management companies. Today GUTcert is recognised in Germany, as being one of the leaders in this field.

To meet the expectations of the European and German market, GUTcert has extended its services to other systems of reference such as ISO 9001 or the regulations relating to vocational training bodies.

In 2004 GUTcert was one of the first greenhouse gas (GHG) verifiers and is one of the biggest operating in this field today in Germany. GUTcert has also started up training activities and almost all of its certification activities are under German accreditation.

GUTcert will maintain its certification activities, while expanding its offer through AFNOR Group’s additional services. Dr Jan Lieback is the Director General of GUTcert. The head office of GUTcert, located in Berlin, is set to become the core of AFNOR’s activities in Germany.

This acquisition is part of the international expansion policy of the AFNOR Group. Implanted in around 30 countries, the Group markets its assessment and certification services in more than 90 countries. Through the Group’s representations, local businesses benefit from a first-rate homogenous performance approach concerning European and international services and from the proximity essential for aiding major French or European groups.
